Comprehensive Community Planning (CCP): Getting Started Workshop
Comprehensive community planning is a community-based planning process that provides First Nations with an opportunity to set a path for the future of their community. It is holistic and integrated. It involves working with the leadership, administration, and the people to create a long-term vision, identify environmental, economic, social and cultural strengths, needs, and priorities and to plan the path to sustainability and achieving the vision.
This 2-day workshop introduces participants to comprehensive community planning (i.e. it is more than doing a site plan for your building!) including how to get started, and interesting and creative ways to involve youth, Elders, and community members in the process.
Comprehensive Community Planning (CCP) Training Program
CIER is currently offering an 18-month training and support program to First Nations that want to develop and implement an integrated community sustainability plan. Please refer to CCP Training Program for more information.
Environmental Assessments Involving First Nations Workshop
This 2-day workshop introduces participants to the concepts of Indigenous Knowledge (IK), First Nations Environmental Philosophy, and methods to include Indigenous Knowledge in the environmental assessment (EA) process. Case study examples will be discussed.
Environmental Assessment Workshop for First Nations
This 4-day workshop incorporates Indigenous and Western knowledge, perspectives and approaches to environmental assessments. The instructors will provide an introduction to Western and Indigenous Environmental Assessment (EA) techniques that can be applied at the community level. During the classroom component, the EA techniques selected as most relevant at the community level will be discussed.
In addition to classroom learning, there is a one-day field trip to a First Nation community. During this day, the EA techniques discussed in the classroom are applied to allow the participants to learn from observation and experience. An Elder joins the teaching team during the field trip.
