Have you heard about Canadian Heritage's new Canada Interactive Fund? Well, it focuses on supporting the creation of online Canadian interactive website content and applications developed by Aboriginal, ethnocultural, Official Language Minority Community, and other not-for-profit cultural organizations.
We're working on developing a proposal focused on creating an interactive website for First Nations youth that:
- Makes the connection between a healthy environment and First Nations' traditional foods
- Focuses on giving First Nations youth an online space to share their perspectives about this subject and learn from their peers
- Provides First Nations youth with information to support efforts to protect their environment to protect their traditional foods.
An important piece of this proposed project will be to engage with First Nations youth from one First Nation to develop digital stories about this subject, that will be available for public access through the website. Each youth participant will be trained in and given access to the necessary technologies (laptop computer, software, digital camera and video camera) to create a personal digital story where they share their perspectives about their environment and traditional foods. They will also gain useful technology skills that they can use in the future to share their perspectives about other subjects.
If your community is interested in being involved in this proposed project, we'd love to hear from you by July 7, 2010! Please contact us for more information.
