We are committed to maintaining your confidence and trust. We maintain the following privacy policy to protect the personal information that you provide online.
Currently, all areas of our site are accessible without registration of any kind. If in the future registration becomes necessary to access various sections of the site, we promise you that we will not share your information with any third-party organisation without your explicit permission to do so. Personal information that you provide is stored in a secure location and is accessible only by designated staff.
Collection of Personal Information
CIER clearly identifies the primary use of the personal information gathered and asks permission before any secondary use of that personal information. In order to fulfill our mandate, CIER may collect the following information from you: name, home address, home telephone number, email address, credit card information, fax number, gender, age, income level, and interests. This information may be collected through feedback forms, donor services, our website, or in-person at special events.
Purpose for Collecting Personal Information
We only collect personal information, by fair and lawful means, necessary to fulfill the following purposes:
- To organise fundraising activities, including solicitations to donate by mail and email
- To send tax receipts for donations to CIER
- To organise program area projects and campaigns
- To conduct internal surveys and focus groups
- To notify individuals about CIER activities, through electronic and print alerts, newsletters, brochures, reports, and educational and awareness resources
- To undertake targeted fundraising
Disclosure and Retention of Personal Information
CIER never trades or sells your personal information. We use this personal information to provide you and other clients and donors with information. We might, however, use a third party mailing house to mail a CIER report, newsletter or direct mailing about our activities. In addition, credit card information, if provided by you, is shared with our banking institution. The third parties in these instances are contracted to comply with strict information privacy standards, including rules and guidelines of federal privacy legislation, and are required to destroy the information supplied after one use.
Your personal information collected is retained for an indefinite period and will be protected unless you request us to return or destroy certain or all of your information.
Accuracy of Personal Information
We make every effort to accurately record all information. If you notice any errors or if your personal information has changed, please contact us to update your file. We will take reasonable steps to amend the same information if it is in the possession of a third party.
Security and Protection of Personal Information
All personal information collected on CIER’s website is knowingly and specifically supplied to us by you and other website users. Any commerce functions on this site are protected by 128-bit Secure Socket Layer (SSL) encryption, the standard for web-based commerce.
Personal information is stored in our database and in hard copy files. Electronic information stored in computers is password protected. Backup disks and hard copy paper files are kept in locked cabinets. Only a limited number of authorised CIER personnel have access to the secured personal information.
Personal information in paper format is destroyed through shredding. Electronic information is destroyed by deletion. If the hardware is discarded, the hard drive is physically destroyed.
“Cookies” are bits of information sent to your computer from a website through your browser program. Cookies help you access pages faster and allow our server to recognise you as you move from page to page. If you choose not to accept cookies, some sections of our site may not be available to you. CIER reads cookies specifically written for our website and does not use cookies to track a user’s Internet history on other sites.
Access to Personal Information
If you provide us with your personal information, you are entitled to access this information from CIER. If you would like to see your personal information, please feel welcome to contact us. We will provide access to your personal information and provide any assistance required in understanding the nature of personal information that is in our possession. There is no cost to gain access to personal information.
We may ask that you put your request in writing. If we are unable to give access, we will inform you within 30 days, in writing, with the reasons for not giving access.
If you wish to make a formal complaint about our privacy practices, you may do so by writing to us. We will acknowledge receipt of your complaint, ensure that it is investigated promptly, and follow-up with you in writing.
Policy Updates and Changes
Due to the fast-changing nature of online technologies, CIER may change this policy from time to time. Changes may occur without warning and they will be reflected on this page.
